As students return to school for 2025, Port Stephens Council is taking action to enhance safety in school zones. Throughout February, Council rangers are visiting schools to engage with parents, caregivers, and staff about safe driving and walking practices around schools.
Senior Ranger Lisa Lovegrove explained that the goal of the campaign is to raise awareness about key safety measures that can help protect children as they head back to school.
“Our rangers are available to answer questions regarding safe and legal parking during school drop-off and pick-up times,” Ms. Lovegrove said. “We also provide flyers with information on how to park safely around schools.”
One of the key concerns, Ms. Lovegrove added, is when cars are parked improperly. This can block drivers’ vision, creating unsafe conditions for pedestrians, particularly young children.
The Council is urging drivers to slow down in school zones, watch for signs, and follow parking regulations to help ensure the safety of all students.
“It’s about keeping children safe and making sure they can travel to and from school without risk,” she concluded.
