SINGAPORE, Dec 4 — A gastroenteritis outbreak at Little Seeds preschool in Potong Pasir has sickened 24 children, with seven being hospitalized on Monday.
The preschool, located at the Calvary Baptist Church and operated by Anglican Preschool Services (APS), confirmed that three of the affected children tested positive for salmonella infection. Salmonella, a bacteria often spread through contaminated food like raw meat, eggs, and poultry, causes symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, and fever.
According to a joint statement from the Singapore Food Agency (SFA), the Ministry of Health (MOH), and the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA), four of the hospitalized children have been discharged, while the remaining three are in stable condition. The preschool has implemented several measures to prevent further spread, including suspending all group activities, keeping children in their classrooms, enhancing cleaning and disinfection, and temporarily halting kitchen operations in favor of catered meals.
This incident follows a similar gastroenteritis outbreak in January 2024, where eight children at Haven Infant & Toddler Centre in Tanjong Pagar were affected by a viral infection.
Little Seeds preschool, which serves children aged 18 months to six years, operates 16 branches across Singapore.
