A nonprofit preschool and daycare in Leesburg recently received a generous donation of new playground, sensory play, and classroom equipment.
Open Door Learning Center (ODLC) was the recipient of the donation, made by one of its student’s parents, Sir and Janae Wheeler.
The Wheelers recognized a need for updated toys and equipment for both the playground and the sensory playroom, prompting their donation.
ODLC serves both children with and without disabilities, allowing them to learn together in an inclusive environment.
“This project was so important to us because of the amazing resources that ODLC and The Arc of Loudoun provide to the community,” Janae Wheeler said in a statement. “ODLC has given our son the opportunity to thrive. He feels accepted and cared for by his teachers. He lights up when he arrives and talks about his day at home. He even started calling his teacher Aunt Von. When your child feels close enough to a teacher to adopt her as family, you know you’ve found more than just a great school — you’ve found a home.”
In collaboration with nonprofit Elev8 Today and Foresters Financial, the Wheelers secured $2,200 in grant funding to refresh the sensory play equipment and provide classroom resources, such as laminators, craft supplies, and educational toys.
