Students at The Learning Experience in Marlton are learning valuable lessons about philanthropy as part of their monthly curriculum. This November, the focus is on donating and volunteering.
The children are not just hearing about the importance of giving back—they are actively participating in it. With the help of their families, the students collected supplies to create “blessing bags” for the homeless.
Lead Teacher Kaitlin Walker explained the impact on families: “Some parents come in and say, ‘Oh, my child mentioned this… I didn’t even know you were talking about that.’ It’s surprising when a three-year-old comes home talking about donations and volunteering.”
The philanthropy curriculum teaches students how to support local nonprofits and engage in acts of kindness, like sharing with classmates, saying kind words, and being polite.
Tricia Cylc, the owner of The Learning Experience Marlton, emphasized the importance of character development: “Just as we teach the alphabet, shapes, and colors, we also focus on teaching our students to be good human beings from a young age.”
Looking ahead, next month’s lesson will focus on the theme of hope—a fitting topic for the holiday season. Head Teacher Bianca Salinas shared her thoughts: “Sometimes kids may not receive a toy, but the hope in the season is what matters most. It’s not just about gifts; it’s about being with family and looking forward to the new year.”
Through these lessons, students are learning the true meaning of giving and the importance of supporting others.
