Now Open: Apply to Create More Early Childhood Spaces in Your Area

Ms. Julia Finn, the Member for Granville, is urging local early childhood education and care providers to apply for funding under a new $20 million initiative from the Minns Labor Government aimed at creating more spaces for children in the area.

The funding will help expand or build new services in regions with the greatest need, allowing hundreds of additional families to access early childhood education and care.

The Building Early Learning Places Program targets not-for-profit community preschools, long daycare centres, and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO) service providers in 31 regions across New South Wales, including areas such as Merrylands and Holroyd.

This program aims to create at least 300 extra child care spaces each week for children aged 0 to 6 in communities where there is a shortage of services. It is part of the Government’s broader effort to give all children a strong start in their education, regardless of where they live.

This initiative is funded through the NSW Childcare and Economic Opportunity Fund and forms part of a larger commitment to improving access to affordable, quality early childhood education services statewide. Other initiatives include:

The creation of 100 new public preschools, providing fee-free education for more than 9,000 children.

More than $430 million in preschool fee relief for families in 2024-25.
A $20 million Flexible Initiatives Trial, offering grants to early education services to trial new operating models, including flexible hours and weekend care, to better meet families’ needs.

Over $17 million in scholarships and professional development to increase the number of early childhood educators and teachers.

More than $5 million for a Business Capability Development Program to support early childhood services in building business skills.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning Prue Car emphasized the program’s focus on supporting communities with high demand for early education. “High-quality early childhood education sets children up for success. This program is about making sure all children, regardless of their background or location, have access to these vital services,” she said.

Ms. Finn also highlighted the importance of the program for families in her electorate, particularly in communities like Merrylands. “Local services are eager for more places in preschools and daycare centres. This funding will help address that demand and give our kids the education and care they need to succeed,” she said.

The initiative reflects the Government’s ongoing commitment to supporting families and improving early childhood education across New South Wales.
