The La Porte Community School Corporation (LPCSC) Board of Trustees approved a plan Monday night to repurpose Lincoln Elementary School into an Early Childhood Center. The decision was made during a special board meeting held at the Educational Services Center.
Under the new plan, Lincoln Elementary will house the district’s consolidated preschool program. The district will establish new school boundaries, which will be announced as early as January. Current Lincoln Elementary students will be informed of their new school locations, with opportunities for them to visit their new schools as part of the transition.
“This change addresses several important goals for our district,” said Superintendent Dr. Sandra Wood. “By consolidating our early childhood program at Lincoln, we tackle current enrollment issues, create space to expand our Career and Technical Education program at the Boston building, and provide a stronger early education environment for our youngest learners.”
The district will begin a comprehensive nine-month transition plan, which will focus on supporting students, families, and staff. Transition committees will be formed to guide the process and ensure that community feedback is considered.
“We understand the impact of this decision on our community,” said Board President Ryan Seaburg. “The Board took careful consideration of all factors, including input from the public. We believe this change will help strengthen our district’s ability to serve all students.”
More details on school assignments, transportation, and transition activities will be provided to families in the coming months. For further information, families can contact the LPCSC district office or visit the district’s website at lpcsc.k12.in.us.
