BORDENTOWN, NJ — The Bordentown Regional School District (BRSD) will receive over $1 million in state funding to enhance its preschool program, as announced by Governor Phil Murphy and New Jersey Department of Education Acting Commissioner Kevin Dehmer last week.
The BRSD is set to receive $1,305,345 in Preschool Expansion Funds for the 2024-2025 school year. This funding aims to improve access to high-quality preschool programs. The allocation comes from a budget resolution co-sponsored by Senator Troy Singleton, which provides $20 million to BRSD and 17 other districts across New Jersey.
Additionally, four other school districts in Burlington County will benefit from this funding: Chesterfield ($1,116,753), Evesham ($3,220,622), Riverton ($368,568), and Southampton ($552,852). Overall, the state funds are expected to allow over 1,200 more children to attend quality preschool programs.
Governor Murphy stated, “Our investment in early childhood education gives young learners a solid foundation for success. This announcement reflects my commitment to expand early childhood education in more communities, ensuring that every 3- and 4-year-old in New Jersey has access to quality preschool.”
The awarded districts demonstrated their ability to provide high-quality preschool education. This includes full-day programs with certified teachers, aides, a curriculum aligned with New Jersey Preschool Teaching and Learning Standards, and small, inclusive classes for children with special needs.
Senator Singleton expressed pride in the funding announcement, noting, “I am incredibly proud to announce that Bordentown Regional School District will receive over $1.3 million for pre-K education. This funding, part of a budget resolution I co-sponsored, will help create lifelong learners while reducing the burden on local taxpayers. These two communities, Bordentown and Riverton, will greatly benefit from this investment.”
