Over $750,000 Granted to Boost Early Learning Programs in Washington

Projects aimed at enhancing language skills and access to quality early learning for children in Western Australia have received over $750,000 in funding through the Preschool Reform Agreement (PRA).

This funding, a collaboration between the Commonwealth and State Governments, will be allocated to the WA Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) sector via the second round of the Supporting Children in Early Childhood Education and Care WA grants program, managed by Child Australia.

Fourteen organizations will each receive up to $100,000 for initiatives that support early learning and help over 2,600 children transition to school. The funded projects align with the PRA’s goals, particularly focusing on improving participation and outcomes for Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and disadvantaged children.

Federal Early Childhood Education Minister Dr. Anne Aly emphasized that all children should benefit from quality early education, regardless of their background. “Quality early learning is essential for ensuring children have the best start in life and are ready for school,” she stated.

In the first round of the grant program, 16 organizations received over $1 million to enhance kindergarten programs, benefiting more than 5,700 children across WA.

This announcement coincides with Children’s Week 2024, which runs from October 18-27, celebrating children and promoting their rights as recognized by the United Nations since 1954.

Early Childhood Education Minister Sabine Winton expressed pride in the collaboration with Child Australia and the Commonwealth Government. “Fourteen ECEC providers will deliver projects that set children up for success,” she said. “It’s especially meaningful to make this announcement during Children’s Week, celebrating children’s rights and achievements.”

Winton congratulated the successful applicants and looked forward to the positive community impact of their projects. “The Cook Government is dedicated to ensuring that all young children and their families in WA have access to quality early learning.”

Child Australia CEO Tina Holtom praised the collaboration with the WA Government in distributing funds to the ECEC sector. “We congratulate the successful organizations for their commitment to providing high-quality, nurturing experiences for children transitioning from ECEC to school,” she said.

“With over 2,600 children benefiting from this funding, the impact will be significant, offering vital resources for a smooth transition to school. These initiatives will improve early learning environments and foster positive developmental outcomes, laying the groundwork for lifelong success and wellbeing.”
