The Bauchi government has announced plans to construct 21 junior secondary schools and 21 senior secondary schools as part of the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project.
Malam Ali Sule, the state coordinator of AGILE, made this announcement during the celebration of the 2024 International Day of the Girl Child. This event was organized by the State Ministry of Education in partnership with the office of Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed, the state governor’s wife, with support from AGILE.
AGILE is a project funded by the World Bank and implemented by the Federal Ministry of Education. It focuses on helping adolescent girls aged 10 to 20 in 18 states, including Bauchi.
Ali explained that the initiative aims to improve secondary education opportunities for girls in specific areas. He stated, “To create new safe learning spaces in secondary schools, the project will construct 21 new junior secondary schools and 21 senior secondary schools.”
The new schools will feature well-lit classrooms with good ventilation, storage areas, solar power, and furniture. They will also have separate gender-specific toilets, WASH facilities, and security measures like fences and perimeter walls.
