The manager of Powick Preschool has praised her “tight-knit” team after the preschool received a ‘Good’ rating from Ofsted following an inspection in July. Located in the parish hall on Malvern Road near Worcester, the preschool cares for children aged two to four during school term times.
Ofsted recognized the preschool for its quality of education, behavior, personal development, and leadership. Anna Morris, the preschool’s manager, expressed her satisfaction with the inspection results. “We’re really pleased with how our inspection went,” she said.
Morris emphasized the importance of the team, stating, “They are absolutely integral. It’s a really tight-knit group, which is important for the children and their parents. There is good continuity in terms of the staff they see here each day. It helps in their development.”
The Ofsted report highlighted how staff at Powick Preschool respond sensitively to children’s needs, offering comforting hugs when necessary. The report also noted that children learn about the world through their experiences at the preschool, particularly through outdoor activities in their inviting play space. Morris commented, “It’s really important to us and our children. They love being outside and using our secure outdoor space. It’s a big part of their day.”
According to the report, staff actively encourage children to explore nature. Children enjoy growing plants and vegetables, tending to them, and preparing lettuce for snack time and vegetables for soup. The inspector noted the “good progress” children make in their learning, including those with special educational needs and disabilities.
Leadership at Powick Preschool was another focus of the Ofsted report. It stated, “The manager has a good oversight of the effectiveness of the curriculum. She works closely with staff to assess children’s progress and identify gaps in their learning. They instinctively challenge the most able children.”
Additionally, Ofsted praised the preschool’s strong partnerships with parents, noting that “parents give high praise for the support they and their children receive from staff.”
This inspection marked Powick Preschool’s first Ofsted evaluation in nearly six years. The preschool was previously rated ‘Good’ by the education watchdog in October 2018.
