Chesil Bank Preschool in Abbotsbury, Dorset, is calling for more families to enroll their children as it faces challenges in remaining operational. Established in 2003, the preschool emphasizes outdoor activities for children.
Parents of current students are eager to support the preschool after its former operator stepped down. They believe that the preschool’s “calm and quiet” environment could draw in parents from surrounding areas.
Derek Greenacre, a grandparent, expressed concern about the potential closure, stating, “It’s in a rural area. There’s not a lot of options for almost anything. If it closes, the whole community will lose out. For example, the hall owners won’t receive any income from the preschool. This impacts the entire community.”
Emma Gordon, whose son attends Chesil Bank, shared her positive experience, saying, “He gets muddy, he gets wet, and he always comes home happy and smiling. It’s an incredibly calm and quiet setting, which makes you feel relaxed when you drop him off.”
Ms. Gordon noted that, due to the limited number of young families in Abbotsbury, the preschool needs to attract families from nearby towns like Weymouth, Dorchester, and Portland. “I travel 20 minutes to get there. Another parent brings her little girl from Portland. We just need people to know we’re here,” she added.
