Staff and children at Tops Babbacombe are celebrating their recent achievement of receiving a ‘Good’ rating from Ofsted following a recent inspection.
A spokesperson for the nursery expressed their dedication, stating, “Tops Babbacombe is truly passionate about providing high-quality early education and care for all our children. We take pride in maintaining a safe, secure, and family-centered environment.”
The Ofsted report highlighted the positive atmosphere at the nursery. “Children feel safe and happy. They arrive with big smiles and reach out for cuddles from staff. They wave goodbye to their parents and eagerly join their friends to play. Staff are kind and attentive to children’s needs, helping them learn the day’s routines,” the report noted.
The report also mentioned that a well-designed curriculum is in place. Since the last inspection, the leaders have worked to enhance staff understanding and implementation of this curriculum. Following training from the leaders, staff have started to focus on children’s interests when planning learning experiences and developmental next steps. They gather information from parents about their children’s interests and work together to create engaging activities. As a result, staff have observed that children are more motivated and display higher levels of curiosity during play.
The inspector added, “All children make good progress in their personal, social, and emotional development. Staff assist children in recognizing different emotions. They show babies and toddlers pictures illustrating various behaviors, such as ‘kind hands,’ helping them learn positive interactions.”
For preschool-age children, staff use puppets and ’emotion stones’ to aid in emotional regulation. They frequently discuss feelings, encouraging children to articulate how they and their friends feel.
Leaders and staff also collaborate closely with other professionals to meet the needs of all children. They partner with local schools to prepare children for their next educational stage. By sharing information on children’s learning and development, they ensure a smooth transition.
Tops Babbacombe is part of the sustainable Tops Day Nurseries chain, which operates over 30 nurseries across the South and Southwest. They provide flexible early education and care for children aged from three months to school age.
