KANEOHE, Hawaii (KHON2) — Lt. Governor Sylvia Luke, local legislators, and students gathered to celebrate the opening of two new public preschool classrooms in Kaneohe. This milestone benefits Windward Oahu families by enhancing access to early education.
The new classrooms are located at Benjamin Parker Elementary School and are part of the Ready Keiki initiative. This program aims to provide universal access to preschool education.
Each classroom can accommodate 20 children, focusing on those with specific learning, language, and family needs. The Windward community has expressed a strong demand for more childcare and preschool options.
“These new classrooms respond directly to that need, and we are excited to see them open in Kaneohe,” said Yuuko Arikawa-Cross, Director of the Executive Office of Early Learning (EOEL). “We are thankful to our partners for helping make this a reality for our children.”
Families living or working in Windward Oahu should note that open enrollment for the remaining seats starts on October 1.
“Pre-K has already made a significant impact here at Ben Parker. Our children will be better prepared for kindergarten, and families are thrilled to have this opportunity close to home or work,” said Principal Patricia Macadangdang.
