Early childhood education providers are optimistic that ending pay parity for relievers will lead to more permanent positions.
Starting in October, only permanent part-time or full-time certified teachers will benefit from the pay parity policy.
The Early Childhood Council reports that 74 percent of its members back this change.
Chief Executive Simon Laube supports removing this policy, describing it as unnecessary bureaucracy.
“You’re essentially encouraging teachers to leave their positions and become relievers if you maintain this policy. This change makes practical sense,” Laube said.
