Today marks Early Childhood Educators’ Day, a day dedicated to honoring the essential staff who are at the heart of early learning. Helen Gregory reports.
On Wednesday, September 4, early childhood teachers and educators will be recognized for their crucial role in preparing the next generation for success.
NSW Department of Education Secretary Murat Dizdar highlighted the significance of this workforce on Early Childhood Educators’ Day.
“You are the heart of our sector, and we deeply appreciate your dedication and commitment to making a difference for our youngest learners,” Mr. Dizdar stated.
“We recognize the profound impact you have on the lives of children, families, and communities, and we extend our gratitude.”
Established in 2011 by the Australian Childcare Alliance Queensland branch, Early Childhood Educators’ Day acknowledges the pivotal role these professionals play.
Research indicates that 90% of a child’s brain development occurs by age 5, a period that significantly influences long-term education, health, and social outcomes.
Mr. Dizdar emphasized that high-quality early childhood education and care are essential for children to develop the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive skills needed before school. This foundation is crucial for lifelong well-being and success.
“We believe every child deserves access to quality early childhood education and care, regardless of their family’s location, income, or circumstances,” he added.
“This goal is achievable only through the expertise, experience, and enthusiasm you bring to your work every day. You are vital in giving our children the best start in life and learning.”
Mark Barraket, Deputy Secretary for Early Childhood Outcomes, stressed that the NSW Department of Education aims to ensure educators and teachers have rewarding careers in early learning.
“A strong, skilled, and valued workforce is essential for delivering high-quality early childhood education and care across the state,” Mr. Barraket noted.
“We appreciate the significant role early childhood educators play in supporting the education and care of children throughout NSW.”
The NSW Department of Education is connecting with the early learning sector through ECE Connect Online sessions from August 26 to September 12, and face-to-face ECE Connect On The Road sessions in October, which will be held in Parramatta, Wollongong, Queanbeyan, and Batemans Bay.
