Local businesses in Oxford devastated by severe flooding are reaching out for public support.
The Creative Starts Learning Center, a town preschool, reports that its building has been severely damaged after over five feet of water from the nearby Little River surged through its walls on Sunday.
Director Marta Saklawska described the scene: “My teachers walked to the center on the first day because the roads were closed. They helped us clean up, salvage what we could, and preserve some memories.”
The preschool was preparing to begin the new school year next week. Saklawska noted the challenging months ahead: “It’s going to be a big adjustment until everything is rebuilt, but we’re determined. We’re Oxford strong.”
Other businesses in the same plaza have also launched fundraising efforts to cover cleanup expenses. Agim Mamudov, owner of Rose’s Family Restaurant, lamented, “Twenty years of hard work is gone.”
Creative Starts Learning Center is working with the Board of Education to secure a temporary location for its students by the start of the school year.
