This morning on “Charlotte Today,” we spotlighted how early childhood education fosters essential daily life skills.
Sharon Lytwynec, a member of the Kiddie Academy Life Essentials Curriculum Advisory Council, joined the show to explain the benefits.
“Life skills and early education are closely linked,” Lytwynec said. Innovative early education providers are now focusing on more than just traditional subjects like ABCs. They are incorporating life skills to better prepare children for their futures. Many parents appreciate this comprehensive approach. A survey from Kiddie Academy reveals that 62% of parents prioritize soft skills development in children under 8. Both parents and teachers agree that a robust early childhood curriculum with integrated life skills benefits children beyond the classroom. Research shows that “transfer learning”—applying skills in different settings—helps children use what they learn at home and elsewhere.
Kiddie Academy’s curriculum supports various learning styles and focuses on critical developmental milestones. The Life Essentials program emphasizes Character, Confidence, Curiosity, Connection, Critical Thinking, and Creative Expression. Lytwynec, as an advisory member, has extensive experience working with early childhood education professionals to create enriching classroom environments and engage parents and peers. These skills also benefit children in different contexts outside the classroom.
