Twenty students from Coleg Cambria recently completed a transformative trip to Cambodia, where they supported local communities through education. The group, consisting of Media and Health and Social Care students, spent their time teaching English at a Supplementary Education Centre and delivering workshops on ICT and media skills to 75 secondary school students. This was part of their collaboration with the Khmer New Generation Organization (KNGO).
The students engaged in a variety of educational activities, focusing on spelling, colors, and numbers while ensuring that the learning experience was enjoyable and fun. They also participated in games and hands-on activities to make the sessions interactive.
The trip was organized in partnership with Challenges Abroad, an organization that leads ethical adventures for young people globally, and Future Sense Cambodia. Julie Guzzo, Curriculum Director of Technical Studies at Coleg Cambria, commended the students for their dedication and enthusiasm. She noted that the students also contributed to environmental efforts by cleaning up plastic and litter from roads and learning Cambodian words and phrases.
During their stay, the students worked on their final major projects, produced short films, vlogs, and developed photography skills while immersing themselves in a new culture. They kept in touch with their community back home through daily social media updates and created a promotional video titled Colours of Cambodia.
The experience was described by the students as deeply emotional and enriching. They praised the Cambodian children as “the most beautiful, kind children you could ever work with” and found the trip to be a “truly humbling experience” that pushed them out of their comfort zones.
Coleg Cambria, with campuses in Wrexham, Deeside, Llysfasi, and Northop, has previously organized educational expeditions to Spain, Vietnam, and Italy, continuing its commitment to global learning experiences.
