Kyrgyzstan currently has 1,912 kindergartens serving 234,000 children, according to Minister of Education and Science Dogdurkul Kendirbaeva.

Among these, 1,638 are public and municipal, while 274 are private.

“For the first half of 2024, preschool enrollment increased by 13,000 children, with 78 new kindergartens established. At the beginning of the year, the coverage rate was 26.4%, and it has now risen to 28.3%,” Minister Kendirbaeva reported at a recent press conference.

The government has opened 151 home-type kindergartens through an accelerator program, accommodating around 3,000 children. Additionally, early childhood development centers have been launched in 248 libraries with support from UNICEF, and librarians have received the necessary training to manage these centers.

The Ministry of Education aims to raise preschool education coverage from 26% to 40% by the end of the year, targeting an additional 113,000 children, Minister Kendirbaeva stated.
