Since the 1923-1924 academic year, the school has been shaping the minds of generations of students. Over the past century, The Woodroffe School has transformed from a boarding school to a grammar school and then to a comprehensive school. Today, it thrives as a community school.
To mark this significant milestone, the Woodroffe Parents, Teachers, and Friends Association (PTFA) will host a Gatsby event at the Marine Theatre. This historic anniversary is expected to draw alumni from various generations.
Headteacher Dan Watts expressed gratitude for the PTFA’s unwavering support and the opportunities they are providing to celebrate the occasion.
“We are very grateful for the ongoing support provided by the PTFA and are delighted that they are providing opportunities for the community to celebrate 100 years of secondary education within Lyme Regis,” he said. “100 years is a significant amount of time, and it is right that this period is marked. During this time, the school, community, and wider world have experienced significant change. However, as a school, we have remained resolute in our core purpose of providing an excellent education for the young people in our care.
“The celebrations provide the opportunity for the milestones and achievements of students past and present to be recognized, and we look forward to sharing their stories.”
Current and former students, staff, parents, and community members are all invited to join the centenary celebrations.
The school hopes the event will foster a sense of pride, unity, and belonging among all who have been part of its remarkable journey.
Tickets for the Gatsby event can be found on the Marine Theatre website.
