Ark Valley Preschool (AVP) will host its Winter Gala fundraising event from 6 to 9 p.m. on December 13 at Poncha Pub, featuring a raffle, trivia, food, and live music. The event is designed to raise funds for the preschool while providing an opportunity for community members to gather and enjoy a fun evening.
Preschool Director Carmel Burton explained that last year’s small gala was a hit, and the school decided to make this year’s event a fundraiser to support its mission as a nonprofit. “It was such a success last year that we wanted to do it again, but this time, let’s make it about fundraising,” Burton said. “We’re so new, and as a nonprofit, we really want to build connections in the community.”
In addition to live music by Nate Cox, the evening will feature a preschool-themed trivia game where participants must ring a bell to answer questions. Incorrect answers could result in playful “punishments,” such as singing the alphabet.
While the event is officially a gala, attendees are encouraged to dress in “Chaffee County best,” which means casual attire is welcome. Burton noted that the teachers and staff plan to dress up for the event, calling it a fun excuse to get creative.
The raffle will include unique items, such as a “Parents Date Night” package featuring a two-hour babysitting session by an AVP teacher and a gift card to Osake Steak and Sushi, and a “Family Movie Night” package, which includes a popcorn maker and a gift card to Moonlight Pizza.
As the preschool’s director, Burton, who previously worked with Family and Youth Initiatives, is working to shape AVP into a community-focused, innovative hub. In addition to the gala, she is organizing a playgroup on December 11 and has started a parenting book club. The school also publishes a monthly newsletter with healthy snack ideas and personal parenting stories.
“We’re not supposed to have it all figured out as parents,” Burton said. “It’s OK to lean on your community, and so far, the response has been really positive.”
Tickets for the Winter Gala are limited to fewer than 100 due to space restrictions at Poncha Pub. Tickets cost $40 and include a free drink ticket, a raffle ticket, and dinner from Poncha Pub. Additional drinks and raffle tickets will be available for purchase. All proceeds from the event will go toward classroom supplies, playground equipment, scholarships for low-income families, and professional development for teachers.
