The Cinnaminson Township School District is set to open two additional preschool classrooms in February 2025 for 3- and 4-year-olds, thanks to continued support from the state’s preschool expansion initiative.
Superintendent Stephen M. Cappello announced the expansion in a letter to families on November 27. The district had previously received $290,280 in funding from the state’s preschool expansion aid, which was first announced in April 2023. This aid allows the district to offer full-day, tuition-free preschool for local families.
The funding is part of a broader state investment of $25 million to expand universal pre-K across New Jersey. In total, 26 districts, including Cinnaminson, will add 1,715 preschool seats in the 2024 fiscal year.
Cappello emphasized that the district’s preschool program follows New Jersey’s Preschool Teaching and Learning Standards, aiming to support long-term development through a whole-child approach. “The Cinnaminson Board of Education is committed to expanding preschool access,” he said, adding that the funding will help meet the district’s goal of enrolling 430 students and reducing the current waitlist.
To ensure fairness, the district will implement a new lottery system for families interested in enrolling. Children must be 3 or 4 years old by October 1 and live in Cinnaminson to be eligible. Families who were previously on the waitlist must reapply. The lottery will randomly select students for available spots, and a waitlist will be maintained in case spots open later.
Parents must submit lottery forms by December 11, with the drawing set for December 18. Notifications will be sent to families by December 20. Registration for selected students will be required by January 17, with classes starting on February 3.
