KAPIT (Nov 25): Tadika Methodist Private Kapit (TMPK) has been praised for its dedication to providing quality early education to local children.
The recognition came during a special event at the civic centre on Saturday, marking the preschool’s 50th anniversary and doubling as a fundraiser. Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, who attended the event, acknowledged the school’s long history since its founding in 1974.
“It has been a long journey for TMPK. It’s not an easy task, but I commend the dedication and commitment of the board, the teachers, and the local Methodist community in Kapit for their continuous support,” Nanta said.
As Kapit’s Member of Parliament, Nanta also mentioned that government funding had recently allowed the kindergarten to expand, adding a new double-story concrete block with additional classrooms.
“The government has many ways to support education, and I am committed to helping further promote it,” he added.
He also emphasized the need for today’s youth to excel in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), technical and vocational education and training (TVET), and artificial intelligence (AI), which are increasingly important in today’s world. Nanta urged parents to support their children’s academic growth from a young age.
Notable figures at the event included Nanta’s wife Datin Sri Angeline Celestine Ujang, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat, Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang, and TMPK chairman Kaso Linang, among others.
During the event, Nanta announced a series of allocations for the TMPK Fund: RM25,000 from his minor rural project grant, RM25,000 from Jamit, RM15,000 from Nyabong, and smaller contributions from other officials.
TMPK Headmistress Peteohella Biya reported that the preschool currently serves 135 pupils, supported by 10 tutors.
