Engen has once again demonstrated its support for early childhood education by backing the Mark Headbush Foundation’s (MHF) Nelson Mandela Bay Mayoral Charity Golf Day at Port Elizabeth Golf Club.
For years, Engen has made notable contributions to early education, partnering with MHF to address critical educational challenges in the community.
The MHF hosted its 18th annual charity golf day, expressing gratitude for Engen’s decade-long support.
“We are incredibly thankful for Engen’s ongoing partnership, which has allowed us to invest in the early education of children. Together with Engen and other corporate partners, we’ve raised over R5 million to improve education for underprivileged children in the Nelson Mandela Bay region,” said Mark Headbush, trustee of MHF.
The 2024 event highlighted Engen’s commitment to sustainability and education, reinforcing its goal to be Africa’s leading and most respected energy company.
Proceeds from this year’s golf day will help improve educational environments, focusing on infrastructure upgrades, providing educational materials, and enhancing access to technology. The aim is to close the digital learning gap and help all children succeed.
“As a brand dedicated to enriching lives, we are proud to renew our partnership with MHF,” said Olwethu Mdabula, Engen’s CSI manager. “By supporting early childhood development, we’re working to address the challenges that threaten the future of many children.”
Engen’s dedication to education is further demonstrated by its Engen Maths and Science School (EMSS) program, which has been positively impacting lives for over 35 years. In 2023 alone, Engen invested R41 million in learnerships and bursaries, in addition to R34 million for various social initiatives.
“Our education investments aim to uplift disadvantaged communities and create a skilled workforce,” Mdabula concluded. “The Engen Maths and Science Saturday Schools are key to our efforts to build a vibrant, talented pool of graduates.”
