MARLTON, NJ – Students at The Learning Experience in Marlton are gaining valuable lessons in philanthropy this month. The school’s curriculum focuses on a new theme each month, and November’s theme is all about donating and volunteering.
In addition to learning about the importance of giving back to the community, the children are putting their lessons into practice. With help from their families, the students donated supplies that were packed into “blessing bags” to support the homeless.
“Some parents tell us that their child mentioned donations and volunteering at home, and they didn’t even realize we were discussing it in class,” said Kaitlin Walker, Lead Teacher. “It’s surprising to hear a three-year-old talking about these topics.”
As part of their philanthropy-focused curriculum, the students are also encouraged to support local nonprofit organizations and practice kindness by saying polite words and sharing with classmates.
“While teaching basic concepts like the alphabet, shapes, and colors is essential, it’s equally important to teach our students how to be good people. We want them to understand at a young age that they can make a positive impact,” said Tricia Cylc, owner of The Learning Experience Marlton.
Looking ahead, next month’s lesson will center on the word “hope.” Teachers say it’s a fitting theme for the holiday season and an important reminder to spread hope and positivity.
“Sometimes children may not get the toy they wanted, but the season is about more than just receiving gifts. It’s about family, joy, and hope for the new year,” said Bianca Salinas, Head Teacher.
