Sage Academy Preschool Hosts Exciting Grand Opening Celebration

by Beatrice

Sage Academy preschool officially opened its doors on Oct. 18, with co-owners, directors, and teachers Janet Renfroe and Katie Moore-Maloney cutting the red ribbon at the school’s new facility at 320 W. B St. The event was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Fallon Chamber of Commerce, followed by tours of the school.

Sage Academy, guided by the motto “Achieving Excellence Together,” offers a curriculum that focuses on STEM education, music, art, and physical enrichment for children ages three to five. The preschool’s goal is to prepare young learners for future academic and social success.

Renfroe and Moore-Maloney, both former teachers at Oasis Academy, recognized a significant gap in early childhood education in Fallon. They saw that many kindergarten students were entering school without the skills needed for success. With limited local options for early education and long waitlists for services, they decided to create a solution.

“We wanted to offer something that would truly benefit the community,” Renfroe said. “We aim to make a difference and help children succeed as they transition into kindergarten.”

To address these needs, the two educators developed Sage Academy’s curriculum from the ground up. Renfroe brings years of experience, having run a small in-home daycare before earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Elementary Education and Curriculum and Instruction, specializing in literature and reading.

Moore-Maloney holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and has a strong focus on mathematics and fine motor skills. She also holds an endorsement in English Language Acquisition and Development from the State of Nevada.

Sage Academy is currently accepting enrollment applications. Both Renfroe and Moore-Maloney highlighted the flexibility of their curriculum, emphasizing their commitment to adapting their approach to meet the needs of each student. They are particularly open to working with children who have special needs.

“It’s important to meet students where they’re at,” Moore-Maloney said. “Every child is unique, and it’s exciting to see their interests and watch them grow.”
