The Seattle Department of Education and Early Learning is now accepting applications for its Seattle Preschool Program (SPP). This initiative is aimed at center-based early learning providers who want to join the program or expand their current involvement.
Recent changes to the eligibility criteria allow organizations that were previously ineligible to apply for participation in this growing educational initiative. The goal is to improve school readiness and support ongoing educational success for children aged 3 and 4, funded by the 2018 Families, Education, Preschool, and Promise Levy.
Approximately $3 million has been allocated for this effort, which aims to add nine new preschool classrooms for the 2025-26 academic year. These new classrooms could result from forming new partnerships through a Request for Qualifications, extending existing SPP classrooms, or establishing direct contracts with qualifying organizations.
The department encourages interested center-based programs, including those operating within Seattle Public Schools buildings, to submit their applications.
Family Child Care (FCC) programs, however, must follow a different process to get involved. FCC providers are advised to contact SPP’s FCC Hub administrators, such as BrightSpark Early Learning Services or Tiny Tots Early Learning Collaborative, as outlined in the original RFQ announcement.
As the education landscape continues to evolve, this initiative aims to enhance access to quality early learning experiences in Seattle. The Seattle Preschool Program is committed to ensuring that children from all backgrounds receive a strong start in their education. Providers who have not previously participated now have a renewed opportunity to contribute their expertise to the city’s educational community.
