Stevenage Pre-School Rated Good by Ofsted: A ‘Happy’ Place for Kids

by Beatrice

Bunnies Pre-school in Great Ashby, Stevenage, has been rated “good” in all areas by Ofsted. The inspection report highlights that children are “eager to get involved with the varied activities” available to them. As they arrive, the report notes, “children show that they feel safe and happy.”

The report praises the pre-school’s “ambitious and well-sequenced curriculum,” which aims to meet the needs of the children and acknowledges their knowledge of families and the community. It emphasizes that staff effectively tailor their teaching to suit the different abilities of the children, using popular books as a key part of their planned activities.

Additionally, the report points out that children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are making good progress. Staff collaborate closely with parents and other professionals to create targeted support plans that help these children thrive.

Ofsted notes, “Staff know the children well and provide them with a range of activities that reflect their interests and introduce them to new knowledge.” However, it also mentions that rigid routines, particularly during adult-led learning, can limit children’s engagement in activities they enjoy.

The report commends the provider and staff for their dedication, teamwork, and commitment to reflecting on their practices. They are aware of the setting’s strengths and areas for improvement and work hard to maintain a welcoming environment.

To enhance the learning experience, Ofsted recommends that the pre-school refine its adult-led routines to allow children to continue their chosen play. It also suggests supporting children in understanding the impact of their behavior on others.

Preschool leader Zoe Wilson expressed gratitude to the families for their support during the inspection. She thanked the staff team—Rachel, Viktoria, Grace, Alice, Faye, Dani, Jen, Lillie, and Emma—for their dedication and enthusiasm. “The team is instrumental in making the pre-school the happy community that we all enjoy coming to every day,” she said.
