Naming Rights Auction Supports New Child Care Center in Silver Creek

A new child care center is set to open in Silver Creek as early as 2027 as part of a two-phase development project in the area.

Columbus Pacific Development, along with PC Tots and the Park City Community Foundation’s Early Childhood Alliance, is auctioning off the naming rights for a new road in Silver Creek Estates. This road will be located near the intersection of Highway 40 and Interstate 80. The proceeds from this auction will support the two nonprofit organizations and benefit early childhood education.

The new road will connect to a five-lot residential subdivision, which is part of a larger project called Crossroads at Silver Creek. This master plan aims to bring grocery stores, retail shops, restaurants, and residences to the area, along with the new child care center.

Tony Tyler, a principal at Columbus Pacific and a Silver Creek resident, has committed to donating land for the new center. The proposed building will be around 4,000 square feet and include outdoor space, parking, and other features. It is designed to accommodate approximately 120 children.

While Tyler has not confirmed which organization will operate the center, he expressed a strong preference for PC Tots, as he serves on its board.

“I’m interested in solving the child care gap in Summit County. This issue doesn’t have to be addressed by a single organization,” he stated. “They will need to build the facility, but we are also working strategically to provide a capital campaign. Ideally, we would give them the building and land for free.”

As Tyler was working through the master planning process, he realized that new roads needed to be built in the neighborhood. He decided to launch a long-term fundraising campaign by auctioning the naming rights to the road.

The road will be a dead-end circle serving five new residential lots. Tyler noted that it is unusual for a new street to be named, making it exciting to see the community’s suggestions.

The auction opened on October 1 and will close on October 25. All proceeds will be divided between PC Tots and the Early Childhood Alliance to support their missions. The “buy it now” price for naming the road is set at an ambitious $200,000.

There are specific criteria for the road’s name. It must not resemble an existing street or convey a political message. Columbus Pacific and Summit County will exercise their discretion in approving names.

“Participating in this auction is more than just a donation. It’s an investment in our future. Imagine a place where every child has equal access to a quality educational foundation that prepares them for success. Auction participants have the unique opportunity to name a street and leave a legacy that will inspire future generations,” said Sue Banerjee, Executive Director of PC Tots.

The Crossroads at Silver Creek project is still under review by the Snyderville Basin Planning Commission. Tyler mentioned that there have been discussions about designs and configurations, focusing on balancing building height with open space and parking. The project has been scaled down from previous designs to feature shorter structures, reduced density, and more green space. The final approval rests with the Summit County Council.

Tyler recently completed the first phase of entitlements for the Crossroads at Silver Creek project, which outlined the lots and established the mixed-use development area. The second phase will finalize the master plan for the development. He is optimistic that the planning process will conclude by summer 2025, allowing construction to begin by fall 2025.

The child care facility will likely require an 18- to 24-month fundraising program, but Tyler is hopeful that Columbus Pacific can also work on the infrastructure simultaneously.

“We are doing this to help address the child care gap in Summit County. My work is in development, but it puts us in a unique position to benefit the community,” Tyler added.
