The Ministry of Education (MoE) will take charge of the education for over 300 children saved during Operation Global, starting from October 1, according to Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek. A tailored curriculum is being designed for these children, many of whom have not experienced formal education.
The educational process will occur at the shelters where the children are currently residing and receiving care. The Ministry is currently assessing their basic skills—reading, writing, and arithmetic—as well as their psychosocial health.
Once the assessment is complete, the MoE will handle all educational needs. The curriculum will be divided into three groups: preschool, primary, and secondary school levels. The educational program will be executed in two stages: an initial two-month phase, potentially extended to a third month if necessary.
Fadhlina emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring these children have the opportunity to learn alongside their peers. “We are dedicated to making sure these children receive a full education,” she stated.
Regarding the possibility of legal action against the parents of the rescued children under the Education Act 1996, Fadhlina said the Ministry is considering it. Previously, the police rescued 402 individuals, aged one to 17, suspected of being exploited, in operations at 20 charity homes in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.
