Program Keeps Growing the Number of Early Childhood Educators on PEI

by Beatrice

The Steps to Success program will return this fall, offering financial support and practical experience for Islanders aiming to become early childhood educators.

Funded by the Department of Workforce, Advanced Learning, and Population through the Canada-PEI labour market agreements, the program helps participants:

Work full-time at a licensed child care centre on PEI

Enroll in post-secondary early childhood education courses at Holland College

Receive a training stipend, travel allowance, and child care allowances, if applicable

In the past four years, the program has trained over 100 individuals with a total investment of $1.8 million. Participants will complete three introductory Early Childhood Education courses at Holland College, with all fees and materials covered. The Early Childhood Development Association of PEI will help successful applicants find 35-week full-time training positions at licensed child care centres across PEI.

Applications for the 2024/2025 intake are due by August 9, 2024.
