Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade recently hosted its 13th Annual “Claws for Kids” event at Joe’s Stone Crab in Miami Beach on May 7, in memory of Judy Kramer. The event drew in South Florida’s prominent community leaders, philanthropists, and influencers, totaling 250 guests. Attendees indulged in delectable stone crabs and other signature dishes without the usual wait.
The event proved to be a significant fundraiser, generating over $250,000 for Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade. These funds are earmarked to support various programs and services across its six Clubs and sites. From educational after-school programs to STEM initiatives, tutoring, summer and athletic programs, the organization aims to nurture children’s potential, fostering them into productive, caring, and responsible citizens.
The evening was enriched by the presence of Belkys Nerey, a five-time Emmy award-winning journalist and WSVN Channel 7 news personality, who served as the Master of Ceremonies. Brett Miller entertained the crowd with his rat pack and contemporary pop performances. Attendees also had the opportunity to win enticing raffle prizes, including a 50’ boat charter ride and a Levian one-quarter chocolate diamond 14KT gold necklace.
Mother-daughter duo Lisa Mendelson and Lindsey Mendelson Pearson graciously chaired the event, with Olga Guilarte as the Special Event Chair. The event, held in memory of Judy Kramer, a dedicated Board member, was a tribute to her legacy and commitment to the cause.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the 2024 “From the Heart Award” to Lisa and Victor Mendelson for their steadfast support and contributions to Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade. Their enduring dedication has made a profound impact on the lives of youth in the Miami-Dade community and beyond.
The event was made possible by the support of sponsors such as the Carmen Rebozo Foundation, DRRT, Lisa and Victor Mendelson, Lindsey Mendelson Pearson, Gordon Alliance Foundation, and others. Hotwire Communications provided audiovisual equipment, while entertainment was underwritten by the Bernhardt Family. Valet service was provided by Quirch Foods, and wine was supplied by Domaine Bousquet.
